Creating a Digital Scrapbook Layout Using Scrapbook Factory
By Barbara Eastwick
This tutorial is available as a short video and as a written text with screen shots.
Have you downloaded your free Digital Scrapbook Kits? I have, and I love them! Did you know that you can use them in Scrapbook Factory? In fact, I think using a scrapbook program just makes sense! Once you bring up your digital kits in the program, all of the other embellishments and features of the software are available to create your finished page! After you download your kits, you’ll need to remember where you saved them, what their called, and you’ll have to “unzip” them before they are usable. Please refer to that tutorial before continuing.
Let’s create a layout from scratch using our digital kits. From the title page, choose "Design From Scratch".
“Scrapbooks” – (and scroll down to find) “12 x 12”.
It’s a big, blank canvas! The small photo of the tags is the link to adding items – click there and “Add Graphic From File”. Now’s where you’ll be allowed to browse your hard drive, and find where you’ve stored your unzipped digital kits. Or you can choose - "Insert" > "Graphic" > "From File".
I'll be using "Bountiful Blessings" by Designs By Shelle, and creating a layout in honor of our 3 year old cat who's not sure how she feels about the 3 new baby kittens we just brought home!
I’m choosing from the kits on my hard drive, and how I organized and saved them – your list may (will) look different. I love that quilted background paper, so we’ll choose that as our foundation. It will start as a small square in the middle of our page. So click and hold the click until the blue box appears, this is where the graphic will go, now you can move it. I moved it to the top left corner, and then stretch towards the bottom right corner. You’ll want to cover the entire space within and including the light grey outline. That is your print boundary. Everything inside the outer most line will save, everything outside will not.
Now I'll wish to add another paper as my mat. I'll click on "Insert" > "Graphic" > "From File" again, and choose my paper. Once I've sized that piece by stretching it to fit the section, I've decided that I want another piece for the sides. The easiest way it to duplicate this first mat. Just highlight the mat, by clicking on it once, and hold "Ctrl" + "D" at the same time, and mat will be duplicated. It's the duplicate paper that we wish to crop to fit the smaller section on the sides.
Choose the square shape cropping tool, and move the edges in to where you wish the cropping to occur. Click "OK".
Since the other two areas I wish to add that mat to are the same size, I'm just going to "Ctrl" + "D" (duplicate) twice, and move them to their spots. Then I'll add some elements. I'm going to click on "Insert" > "Graphic" > "From File" and then find the folder with the coordinating elements. I love this flower.
I'm going to size it and duplicate it. Then go back into the graphics and add the letters "M" "E"
"O" & "W". Then I clicked on "Insert" > "Graphic" > "From FIle" and found the folder with my photos and added these two.
I'm now going to add some text. Click on "Text Tools" from the left hand menu. The Text Box will appear, type in your text, choose your font. I decided I wanted some circular text - so I clicked on "Shape" from the top tab of the Insert Text box, then toggled "Apply Path Effect" and "Circular" and chose "OK".
I now want that picture of Duchess to be cropped into a circle to fit the text. I highlight the photo by clicking on it once, and then choose "Editing Tools" from the left hand menu. Choose the circle icon, and size to where you want it cropped.
Now I'll just move the photo and set the circular text around it. I also want to add some text onto that mat on the right. Click on
"Editing Tools", type in your text, choose your font, and click "OK".
It's done. Now I need to show it off. I wish to save it for online viewing. Click "File" > "Export As Image". This will bring up the export menu.
I'll leave it at 12 x 12, but change it to 72 dpi. This is a good size for saving for online viewing.
I'll just give my layout a name, and finish saving. Now I can upload this layout to my favorite gallery - Yes, you'll find it here at Scrapwow!
